Armenia is one of Europe’s best kept secrets, This mountainous country promises a kaleidoscope of history, culture and fantastic off the beaten track trekking. Our adventure starts with a Yerevan city tour visiting some of the Armenian churches, Republic square and the architectural magnificence of the Cascade, a staircase of multiple levels which offers sweeping views of the city and, on clear days, mighty Mount Ararat.

En route to the mountains, we visit the beautiful medieval monastery and UNESCO world heritage site of Geghard a complex that contains a number of churches and tombs, carved in the rock.

Crossing the Geghama Mountains we trek through flower meadows, to Vishapalich lake where two stone dragons stand “Vishapakars” passing rock paintings, ancient petroglyphs and the volcanic crater lakes on the summit of Mount Azhdahak (3597m) the high point of our adventure. The trail passes Akna lake, which, according to the legend, was formed from tears of Azhdahak. We visit the shores of the vast Lake Sevan to swim and clean ourselves in refreshing waters before our return to Yerevan.
