Weekday Walk: The Box Hill Hike

I hope you like hills! The classic Box Hill hike is a fabulous challenge, with at least 6 steep hills between you and your victory pint. Over 10 miles (16km) through bucolic Surrey countryside, this is a surprisingly remote and forested walk along ancient trackways and footpaths with striking views and vistas throughout.

This hike will be quite muddy and slippery this time of year. Hiking boots are a must, along with poles if you are comfortable using them.

Meeting point: Box Hill and Westhumble train station at 10:57am. Due to Covid, we can not organise train travel out of London, but know that there is a train that coordinates nicely If you would like to drive, there is not a lot of parking around westhumble station….but there is a National Trust Car Park close to the start of our walk and some free parking by Ryka’s.

Cost £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP. We have temporarily raised the price of walks to be able to accommodate smaller groups. As soon as it is safe to take larger groups, we will re-asses our pricing. For this hike, I will be taking a maximum of 15.

Grade: Strenuous. 10 miles (16 km) . A walk for all you gluttons for punishment out there. This is a strenuous walk with steep hills on slippery and stony paths. If you own a pair of hiking poles it’s a good idea to bring them as some of the hillsides are quite slick and eroded making for some creative and less than graceful descents. You need to be reasonably fit to do this hike.
