Weekday Walk: Autumn Colours of Winkworth Arboretum and the Greensand Way

Join us for a quiet hike in the autumnal woods of Surrey. We’ll strike out from Witley on the sandy Greensand Way and follow the gently undulating ridgeline through ancient woodland. The highlight of this hike will be following the footpath through the National Trust’s Winkworth Arboretum, taking in the beautiful secluded valley in it’s autumn-colour glory reflecting off the lake. Once out of Winkworth, we will follow the River Wey into the town of Godalming, with its picturesque medieval high street.

GRADE: Intermediate. 17km/10.5 miles 320m total ascent. This hike can have very muddy paths this time of year, so make sure you are in boots.

MEETING POINT: Due to the new Covid restrictions, we can not travel together and organise group tickets at this time, or even suggest which trains to take. However, we will begin the walk near Witley Station at 11:09 am and end near Godalming station, which is on the same line. If you do take the train, a return to Witley will cover both ends of your journey.

COST: £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP. We have temporarily raised the price of walks to be able to accommodate smaller groups. As soon as it is safe to take larger groups, we will re-asses our pricing. For this hike, I will be taking a maximum of 15.

What to bring: Face covering and hand sanitizer, Lunch, snacks, water, suitable clothing and hiking footwear. We will not be stopping at a shop or a pub so have everything you need for the day!
