Coastal walk from Newhaven to Portslade

This walk sets off passing by a Victorian fort, and along clifftop path. There are delightful sea views along the way, heading in the direction of Peacehaven. At times there are lovely views of the undercliff path below, as well as out to sea.

Following this, the cliff path continues to Saltdean, and at this point, we will pass by the white cliffs of Rottingdean. From there we head into Brighton, passing by the busy marina, and along the promenade. The walk does get busy along this stretch, with plenty of others enjoying the promenade too.

We will pass by Brighton’s famous pier, and head further along the coast. Heading towards Hove, and then to Portslade, the promenade gets quieter again, before we reach our final destination.

MEETING:
10:45 Newhaven Town station ticket office.

Trains: London Victoria 09:24, with a very quick change at Lewes to get on the Newhaven train.

Cost: organiser fee £10 payable on RSVP.

Walk starts: 10:45 Newhaven Town Station

Walk ends: 17:30 approximately, Portslade Station

GRADE: Intermediate 23km 15m 6 hrs hiking 280m ascent Easy (but long!). The walk is 15 miles (23 kilometres) on coastal paths and promenades. There is some elevation gain but not much. However, given that the walk is long, we will need to keep up a moderate pace throughout the walk to ensure we complete it at a reasonable hour. There is an option for those that want to, to end the walk in Brighton or Hove instead. Walk finishes approx 17:30.
