Weekday Walk: Runnymede and Windsor Great Park

We’ve all been fairly sedentary lately, so let us start out easy, shall we?

This is a lovely and historic circular ramble along the Thames to Runnymede meadow. This historic and beautiful spot on the Thames is where King John grudgingly signed the Magna Carta, a document that limited the power of all the future Kings and Queens of England. From here, we will climb a forested hill and make our way to Windsor Great Park. Meandering through the deer park and ancient oak trees and rolling landscape, we’ll have quite a view of Windsor Castle as we make our way to Windsor Station. Windsor Castle has been home of royals since the 11th century, and the Great Park was the traditional hunting ground that surrounded the castle.

The day before the walk, I will send out an email with my contact info and any other information you might need.

Grade: Beginner/intermediate 18km/11 miles. Approx 5 hrs hiking time on easy paths and park tracks. Some rolling hills but nothing too strenuous. Walk finishes approx 16:30

Meeting Point: Due to Covid, we can not travel together and organise group tickets at this time. Meet me outside of Dachet Station at 10:18. I’ll be dressed for hiking and wearing a day-glo yellow shirt.
There is a train that leaves Waterloo at 9:28 (bound for Windsor) that will get you there in good time. There is also the town car park nearby if you choose to drive.

If you choose to take the train, buy a return ticket to Windsor since we will be ending the walk a bit further down the line at Windsor station.

Cost £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP. We have temporarily raised the price of walks to be able to accommodate smaller groups. As soon as it is safe to take larger groups, we will re-asses our pricing. For this hike, I will be taking a maximum of 15.
