Hobbit Shire, Blenheim Palace and the Wychwood Forest

This beautiful walk on the edge of the Cotswolds AONB takes us into the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside, we hike along the Evenlode Valley over rolling hills and fertile countryside through Bleinheim Palace, passing the lake and the Victory Column dedicated to the Duke of Malborough. The trail takes us along Akeman Street, the Old Roman road from Alchester to Cirencester still with some stone slabs intact.

We lunch by the river at Stonesfield Ford, before crossing the valley to arrive at the delightful stone village of Finstock we then enter Lord Rotherwick’s deer park, and Cornbury Park to finish in the historic and charming Oxfordshire village of Charlbury where you are free to return home or join us for a beer and some food.

MEETING TIME: 09.15 London Paddington station, By the information booth near the main ticket office we will be taking the 09:50 train to Hanborough arriving at 10:54 journey time 1hr 4 mins due back in London 19:30.

COST: £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP.

You are responsible for your own Train fare £22.25 for a group travelling together buy on the day.

GRADE: beginner/intermediate 22.1km (13.7 miles), gentle, undulating countryside with good paths 6hrs walking
