Weekday Walk: Farthing Down and Happy Valley

Join us for another hike in Zone 6! Barely outside of Croydon, this easy hike will let us appreciate the encroaching autumn colors and scents without having to travel very much at all. Starting from the station at South Coulsdon, we will explore the many commons and woodlands that make up the outskirts of London. We’ll connect Farthing Down, Happy Valley and gorgeous panoramic views at Riddlesdown on footpaths and meandering country lanes.

GRADE: Intermediate. 10.5 miles/ 17km with about 300m elevation. Some hills, as we are in the South London Downs, but they are all fairly gentle. Paths can be very muddy after rains this time of year, so be wearing appropriate footwear for it.

MEETING POINT: Due to COVID, we can not travel together and organise group tickets at this time (however, you are welcome to self-organise if there is a lot of you leaving from the same place!). Meet me at Coulsdon South Station at 10:08 am. This is a linear walk, ending at nearby Riddlesdown. Either a return to Coulsdon South or a Zone 6 travel card should cover both ends of the journey.

If you wish to drive, you can get the train back to East Croydon from Riddlesdown, change and get back to Coulsdon. You could also walk to nearby Purley station at the end of the walk and get the train direct from there.

Cost: £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP. We have temporarily raised the price of walks to be able to accommodate smaller groups. As soon as it is safe to take larger groups, we will re-asses our pricing. For this hike, I will be taking a maximum of 16.
