Hike the North Downs Way- Stage 5: Oxted to Otford

Another stretch of the North Downs Way as we make our way to Dover. This 153 mile trail stretches across the south with thousands of years of history evident along the way. This stage of the hike starts in Oxted in Surrey and ends in Otford in Kent. We leave the village of Oxted behind us, cross the M25 on a footbridge and climb to the ridge of the North Downs Way. From here, we get a mix of panoramic views of the countryside and quiet forested tracks that will usher us across border into Kent before descending to Otford. We will check out the remains of Otford palace, a dwelling that Thomas Becket enjoyed multiple stays and was a dwelling for successive Archbishops of Canterbury.

GRADE: Intermediate. 12 miles/20 km on good tracks and paths, gentle hills to climb.

Meeting Point: Due to COVID, we can not travel together and organise group tickets at this time (however, you are welcome to self-organise if there is a lot of you leaving from the same place!). There are also a number of discounted tickets available if you book in advance via trainline.com. Meet me at Oxted station at 9:35. There is a train that leaves Victoria at 8:50. You need to buy two single tickets for this hike as it is on two different rail lines.

This is a tricky walk if you want to drive and you would have to take the train to Otford all the way to Bromley to get another train back to Oxted. A taxi or Uber might be helpful if you choose to drive!

Cost: £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP. We have temporarily raised the price of walks to be able to accommodate smaller groups. As soon as it is safe to take larger groups, we will re-asses our pricing. For this hike, I will be taking a maximum of 20.
