This picturesque Country walk leads us from Ware to join the pretty New River built 1613 to supply drinking water to London, we follow the river through Chadwell Springs to the River Lea and onto Hertford. The walk leads us through the grounds of Hertford Castle where parliament was relocated during the great plague and join an old railway which leads to Panshangar Country Park.

Walking through this pretty country park of grasslands lakes and ancient woodland. We visit Osprey Lakes, The Great Oak the largest Oak in the country believed to have been planted by Elizebeth 1st. and the well-preserved ruins of an Orangery which with stunning views across the Mimram Valley, If we are lucky we may see passing Ospreys and grazing Longhorn Cattle.

The path then takes us back into the pretty town of Hertford where there are plenty of cafes and pubs to relax before our journey home.

MEETING TIME: 11:05 Ware Station outside the main entrance.
Inside the London travel card zone so you can use your Oyster card.
Trains leave London Liverpool Street 09:42 arriving in Ware at 10:55 there are no toilets at Ware Station.

COST: £10 pay on RSVP

GRADE: Beginner 18km 12m this trail is on good footpaths and tracks and towpaths. 4.5 hrs hiking time 118m ascent.

WALK STARTS: 11:05 Ware Station

LUNCH: Pack lunch on route

ESTIMATED FINISH: 16:30, Hertford East Station.
