This weekend away takes us to the Cardingmill Valley the gateway to the Stunning Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Long Mynd, a large heathland plateau home to hunting Merlins and deep valleys of Gorse and Hawthorn and Striperstones a short drive away. This is an area of rolling hilltops of rock and heather, river valleys, pastures, meadows, ancient woodlands and picturesque villages giving us some of the UK’s best off the beaten track hiking opportunities.
We have exclusive hire of the 42 bed Wilderhope Manor YHA which gives us plenty of room to social distance, the building is a stunning, Grade I listed Elizabethan manor one of the YHA’s most visually striking properties. Wilderhope Manor gives you a truly unforgettable experience in a historic, beautiful setting.
(social distancing will be enforced throughout the weekend and window seats only in the minibuses.)
Friday: 17:30 Drive from London to Shropshire buy food en route arrive, Shropshire, 21:30 ish
Saturday: Hike
The Long Mynd, we hike Ashes Hollow following the swirling brook to the boiling Well Spring. The hilltop is crossed by the Portway an ancient pony track which we follow to Pole Hill at 512m and a stunning viewpoint with a wide panorama to the west including much of Central Wales. We follow the ridge passing iron age pits to Duckley Nap before descending via Jonathon’s rocks back to the start.
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate 5hs 30mins 18km 600m ascent. Fish and Chip supper
Sunday: Hike
The Stiperstones, This superb Shropshire Hills walk explores an area rich in history and folklore with outstanding scenery and wildlife coupled with lovely views. The route starts from Snailbeach and traverses the main part of the Stiperstones ridge with its fascinating rock formations and iron age hill fort The trail returns Stiperstones village.
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate 4hrs 15mins 13km Stopping en route for a late lunch returning to London for 19:00
Cost £200pp
INCLUDES: return transport from London, two nights accommodation, two breakfasts, Saturday evening meal, (fish and chips) guided walks.
NOT INCLUDED: Pack lunches x 2 You will be required to bring your own
