Mogador, Reigate Fort and the Epsom Downs

This pretty walk in the Surrey Hills takes through Gratton Park with its landscaped Edwardian gardens to continue along a spectacular North Downs escarpment with sweeping views across the Weald.

Continuing to Reigate Fort, built-in 1898 as part of the London Defence Scheme we hike to Coely Hill Viewpoint where the path leads to the isolated hamlet of Mogador where we break for our lunch.

In the afternoon the route goes crosses Banstead Heath Commons to Walton on the Hill before crossing the famous Epsom Downs Racecourse, a short loop leads behind the Grandstand for a panoramic view of the London skyline. We finish in Epsom where you are welcome to join us for a drink and some food or take the train home.

Meeting Point: 09:15 London Victoria Station outside Monsoon near platform 12. We will be taking the 09:39 train to Merstham arriving at 10:14 journey time 35 mins, return train from Epsom Downs. Walk finishes approx 16:30

Cost £10 payable on RSVP.

Train tickets are not included, this trip is in the London travel card zone (Oyster-PAYG)

Grade: Beginner 18km 11m 300m ascent 5hrs hiking time on easy paths and tracks. Walk finishes approx 16:30

WALK STARTS: 10:20, Merstham station.

LUNCH: Pack lunch on route

ESTIMATED FINISH: 16:30, at Epsom Downs.
