Bank Holiday Staycation- Southease to Seaford (and a swim in the sea!)

The current situation calls for a staycation adventure this Bank Holiday. Join me for a day at the beach! Except you have to earn your beach day by having a walk over the south downs before find your laze spot on the shores of Seaford.

From Southease Station, we will have one big climb to lofty heights on the South Downs ridge. Our high point will be Firle Beacon at 217 meters, which will give us fantastic views of the countryside and sea. After a long ridge walk, we will descend into the village of Bishopstone, which has a church that dates to the 8th century- the oldest in Sussex. From here, it’s a quick stroll to Seaford Beach where we can laze around and swim in the sea.

GRADE: Beginner/Intermediate. This hike is 10 miles/16km. One big hill climb right at the start, but the rest of the hike is easy. Good trails, but it’s a very exposed walk without any shade.

MEETING POINT: Due to Covid, we can not travel together and organise group tickets at this time (however, you are welcome to self-organise if there is a lot of you leaving from the same place!). There are also a number of discounted tickets available if you book in advance via trainline.com- buy a return to Seaford. Meet me outside of Southease station at 10:12. There is a train that leaves Victoria station at 8:45 (change at Lewes) that gets to Southease then. If you choose to drive, you can park at Lewes or Seaford and take the train to Southease to join us.

Cost £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP. We have temporarily raised the price of walks to be able to accommodate smaller groups. As soon as it is safe to take larger groups, we will re-asses our pricing. For this hike, I will be taking a maximum of 18.
