Weekday Walk- Chilterns Classic: Ivinghoe Beacon and Ashridge Estate

This superb countryside walk takes takes us from Tring station along the undulating Ridgeway Path. We’ll explore wildflower meadows and rare chalk grassland habitat. We will see the remains of an Iron Age hill fort and burial mounts as we make our way to the viewpoint at Ivinghoe Beacon over the Hertfordshire countryside. After a picnic lunch, the afternoon will be spent exploring the beechwood forest of the Ashridge estate (and maybe spying a Muntjack or two) before making our way back to Tring station.

Grade: Beginner/intermediate 11 miles/17km on good paths and trails. 4.5 hours total walking time and 360m elevation.

Meeting Point: Due to Covid, we can not travel together and organise group train tickets at this time. Meet me outside of Tring station at 10:52 am. I’ll be dressed for hiking and wearing a day-glo yellow shirt.
There is a train that leaves London Euston at 10:04 that will get you there just in time- you are welcome to self-organise if you want to go for the cheaper groupsave tickets. Otherwise, an offpeak day return is cheapest. There is also the station car park nearby if you choose to drive- this is a circular hike.

Cost £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP. We have temporarily raised the price of walks to be able to accommodate smaller groups. As soon as it is safe to take larger groups, we will re-asses our pricing. For this hike, I will be taking a maximum of 16.
