Weekday Hike- Seven Sisters and Beachyhead (and a swim in the sea!)

Join us on the classic Seven Sisters and Beachyhead hike. This is generally acknowledged as the best coastal hike in the UK, and is almost always packed with hikers and daytrippers. However, on the weekdays, it’s a much quieter place with even occasional moments of solitude on the trail.

Starting in the town of Seaford on the Sussex coast, the classic white cliffs walk is one of the finest coastal walks in England. Glorious views of the stunning cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachyhead and the sea are your reward for enduring the many ups and downs we will encounter. We are ending on the promenade and Victorian pier of the seafront town of Eastbourne, where there is a chance to nab some post-hike fish and chips. If the weather is nice and you don’t mind the bracing cold sea, we can go for a swim once we reach Eastbourne, so bring a towel and a change of clothes if you are keen.

Do bring a pair of flip flops or old trainers- If it is safe to do so, I generally opt to cross the river at Cuckmere rather than take a long walk around to the bridge. It’s usually only ankle-to-knee deep and saves us a couple miles, but the pebbles are usually quite painful underfoot.

The day before the walk, I will send out an email with my contact info and any other information you might need.

GRADE: Intermediate/challenging, 22km, 14 miles, 670m ascent, on good paths with some steep hills. 6-1/2 hours hiking. Walk finishes around 6pm in Eastbourne.

Meeting Point: Due to Covid, we can not travel together and organise group tickets at this time (however, you are welcome to self-organise if there is a lot of you leaving from the same place!). There are also a number of discounted tickets available if you book in advance via trainline.com. Meet me outside of Seaford Station at 11:20. I’ll be dressed for hiking and wearing a day-glo yellow shirt. The hike ends in Eastbourne.

There is a train that leaves Victoria at 9:54 (change at Lewes) that will get you there in good time. There is also the town car park nearby if you choose to drive. This is a linear walk but there is a bus from Eastbourne that will get you back to Seaford.

Cost £10 organiser fee payable on RSVP. We have temporarily raised the price of walks to be able to accommodate smaller groups. As soon as it is safe to take larger groups, we will re-asses our pricing. For this hike, I will be taking a maximum of 18.
