Woodlands of the North Downs, Polesden Lacey Manor and Denbies Vineyard

GRADE: Beginner/ intermediate 18km 12m 330m ascent 5hrs walking time. Undulating walk on good paths through woodland, heathland and meadows.

This North Downs walk takes us through beautiful an area of outstanding natural beauty, past the fine Edwardian Manor house on the Polesden Lacey Estate, through meadows, woodlands and hidden valleys to Ranmore viewpoint which gives us fine views over the Downs. we walk through the Denbies Wine Estate the largest in England and finish at Dorking Station for our train home.

Starting at Dorking Station we head south to enter Greatlee Wood, the trail undulates through the wood to join a footpath which follows a small valley.

The track then turns eastward and takes us through gentle pastures to reach the National Trust owned, Polesden Lacey Estate with its fine Edwardian Manor house nestling behind the North Downs.

From the estate, we ascend past Yew Tree Farm to reach the Ranmore common viewpoint which affords us views to the south over the Surrey Hills and the Mole Valley district.

The path follows the escarpment and the Pilgrims way, then descends to pass through Denbies estate the Largest Vineyard in England. From here we turn south to Dorking Station where you can either join us for food and a drink or take the train back home.

MEETING TIME: 09:20 London Victoria Station by the information booth near platform 12

TRAINS: We will be taking the 09:55 train arriving in Dorking Main at 10:51, journey time 56 mins.

COST £8.00 organiser fee pay on the day

Train tickets are not included, available on the day £6.25pp group saver. Please arrive prompt and bring the correct cash if you want to be included in group tickets.

WALK STARTS: 10:51 at Dorking Station

WALK FINISHES: Approx 16:30
